Start with function
Ask how the reception needs to work: check-in, privacy, accessibility, storage, phone use, staff movement and patient waiting all influence the design.
Choose finishes for use, not only appearance
Reception finishes should look considered, but they also need to handle footfall, cleaning, knocks, signage, lighting and ongoing maintenance.
Plan the temporary reception arrangement
If the practice remains open, patients still need to arrive, wait and speak to staff. Temporary routing and communication should be part of the refurbishment plan.
